TTP B1-L3 ATA80 Cessna 172 B2-L1 Starter - Direct drive 24 VDC starter mounted at the front (propeller end) lower left side of the engine. The ignition key in the instrument panel operates the starter solenoid. When the solenoid is operated, its contacts close and a electrical current energizes the starter. A pinion gear in the starter engages the crankshaft ring gear.
